Boost engagement within your app by displaying real-time user activity. This feature shows who's currently online, indicates when users are typing, and updates messages instantly without requiring page refreshes.

Key Features

Active Status Indicators

  • What it is: Green dots that appear next to a user's avatar when they are actively using the community
  • Where it appears: In community channels, member lists, and direct messages
  • What it indicates: The user is currently active in the community
  • What it excludes: Background activity (like video watching) does not trigger active status

Typing Indicators

  • What it is: Visual cues showing when a user is composing a message
  • Where it appears:
    • Channels: Displayed in the channel header (below the channel name)
    • DMs: Displayed in the bottom corner of the screen
  • What it shows: "[User name] is typing..." appears when someone is composing a message

Real-time Message Updates

  • What it is: New messages appear instantly without requiring users to refresh the page
  • Where it works: In all community channels, threads, and direct messages
  • How it helps: Creates fluid, natural conversations similar to popular messaging apps

Privacy Controls

For Your Members

You and your members can control their visibility through privacy settings:

  1. Navigate to Profile
  2. Select Settings
  3. Choose Privacy
  4. Toggle Live Activity on/off

Important note: Even when a member disables Live Activity, they will still see who else is online. The setting only controls their own visibility to others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will sound notifications be added in the future?
Sound notifications are not included in the current version but may be considered for future updates.

Does background activity trigger "active" status?
No. Background activities like video watching or recording do not update a user's status to "active."

Can I enable this feature on the Pro or Launch plans?
Community Live Activity is exclusively available for Growth, Ultimate, Scale, Expand, and Plus plans.

Will members know if I've disabled my active status?
No. When you disable your active status, others simply won't see the green indicator by your name. There's no notification that you've changed this setting.

Do all members have Live Activity enabled by default?
Yes. Live Activity is turned ON by default for all members, but they can disable it through their privacy settings if preferred.
