      Apple and Google Store In-App Purchases and Commission

      1. In-App Purchases

      A new client can download your app for free and use their Apple/Google account to buy your product or subscription inside the app. This is called an in-app purchase.

      Payments will then be processed directly by Apple/Google, and clients will automatically get full access to all your app content after purchasing.

      In-app purchases are suitable for low-ticket offers/tripwires. Any higher ticket should be done outside the app. Please take a look at this article: How to create hidden pricing.

       

      2. App Store Commission

      It's a common misconception that Apple and Google take 30% of all revenue.

      The reality is:

      • You don't have to sell with IAPs (in-app purchases) - you can sell on the web app and still give access to the app (like Netflix and Spotify do).

      • You can sell via PassionPayments (3.9%) or your checkout URL and connect to your app via Zapier.

      • You pay only 15% app store commission for IAPs up to $1m/y

      • You pay a 30% commission on IAPs after $1m/y

      If you make less than $1m/y, you can apply for their start-up program where they charge 15% :

       

      3. Cancelling In-App Purchases

      You will not be able to cancel your client's subscription in PassionMetrics, your client would need to do this themselves on their mobile device via their Google Play/Apple App store.

      • Can I take payments outside Apple/Google?

      • When will I receive my Apple/Google payouts?

      Payouts from in-app purchases can take up to 60 days to be received and will come directly from Apple/Google. Please get in touch with their customer support for more information on receiving payouts.
