What you need to know
As an app creator using Passion.io, it's important to understand Google's recent changes to their Photo and Video Permissions policy. This article will guide you through the process of ensuring your app remains compliant and available on the Google Play Store.
What's changing?
Google is introducing new restrictions on how apps can access photos and videos on users' devices. For apps like yours that require broad access to photos and videos, you'll need to go through a quick review process to maintain this level of access.
What you need to do
Just submit a short declaration form. This form will explain why your app needs broad access to photos and videos.
It takes less than 5 minutes to complete, and Google typically reviews it within 24 hours, based on other apps’ experiences.
Timeline to remember
- September 18, 2024 - October 31, 2024: Submit your declaration form.
- January 22, 2025: Final deadline for full policy compliance.
Steps to submit your declaration form
-
Log in to Google Play Console
- Scroll down from the left side to Policy and Programs ==> App Content
- You will see the screen "1 declaration needs attention"
- Click "Start declaration"
- Briefly explain why your app needs broad access to photos and videos
Make sure you use 250 characters or less. Here's a template you can customize:
For Read media images:
My app requests access to photos so users can upload progress images in the community. This helps inspire others, foster connections, and celebrate milestones.
For Read media video:
My app needs the READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permission to let users upload videos and share routines, tips, and achievements. This fosters interaction and support through comments, enhancing the overall user experience.
