Overview

Google Play now requires all apps using Foreground Services (such as background audio or picture-in-picture) to complete the Foreground Service Permissions section in App Content before app submission.

To stay compliant, creators must resubmit their Android app binary after completing this new requirement in their Google Play Console.

What You Need to Do

Before you resubmit your app, you must:

  1. Complete the Foreground Service Permissions form in your Google Play Console.

  2. Provide proof that your app legitimately uses Foreground Services.

  3. Upload a short demo video showing your app playing audio in the background while minimized.

Demonstrating Background Audio Playback

Option A: Us a Sample Video (Recommended First)

To simplify this step, you can use one of our sample media playback videos available here.
These videos demonstrate how audio continues to play when the app is minimized.

If Google requests further verification, follow Option B below.

Option B: Record a Video on Your Device

Follow these steps to record your own background audio playback demo:

  1. Install your app on an Android device.

  2. Open the app and start playing any audio or video content.

  3. Press the Home button (or swipe up) to minimize the app.

    • The app should continue playing audio in the background.

  4. Confirm playback — you should still hear the audio while on the home screen.

  5. Record your screen as you perform these steps.

    • On most Android devices:

      • Swipe down from the top → tap Screen Recorder.

      • Start recording, then repeat steps 2–4.

  6. Save the video and upload it in the Foreground Service Permissions → Media Playback section of your Google Play Console.

Tip: Ensure your device’s volume is audible in the recording so reviewers can clearly hear the background audio.

Where to Submit Your Video

  • Go to your Google Play Console → App Content → Foreground Service Permissions.

  • Select Media Playback as the type of foreground service.

  • Upload your demo video link in the field provided.

    • You do not need to select Picture-in-Pictureimage-1

  • Click Save when finished.

Completing this step ensures your app passes Google’s updated review process and remains compliant.
