What is Direct Messaging?
Direct messaging allows you to send private messages to individual users across your app.
What You Need to Know
1. One place for all your Direct Messages (DMs)
Instead of having separate DMs in each community, you'll have just one chat with each user. This eliminates the need to navigate through different communities to access your DMs and monitor your conversations.
Where to find your Direct Messages
- Go to Profile > Inbox
2. No community yet? You can send DMs anyway
You can send a direct message to an individual user even if they are not part of a community (or if you haven't created a community yet).
How to start a Direct Message
- Go to Users
- Find the user you want to message
- Tap Message and type what you want to say
That user will see the message under Profile > Inbox.
3. You can automate Direct Messages and channel messages
To do this, you'll also need to use Zapier.
Your user will see your Direct Messages under Profile.
Note: Zapier integration is only available on Growth, Ultimate and Plus plans. Check plans here.
How Does It Work?
All your chats with the same person are now combined into one thread, no matter which community they are in.
- Your past conversations are safely stored in Archived Messages, so you can access them anytime.
-
Existing threads are read-only to keep their history, but you can start new chats and check old ones.
-
New chats you create will be visible across all your communities, and under Profile > Inbox.
Note: New users won't have Archived Messages, and they will see all DMs directly under Profile > Inbox
